Dogs have been my lifelong companions. Since the age of seven, there were only four years when my lifestyle did not allow me to have a dog of my own — during that time, I often borrowed my mother’s dog.
My first dog was a purebred long-haired Dachshund named Vidra, which means otter in Slovenian. She was a very special companion who grew up with me from childhood into adulthood. Later, I fell in love with a completely different breed — the Hovawart. In 2006 our family welcomed Tuka, who lovingly accompanied my two sons throughout their early childhood. While Tuka was a fantastic dog, I wished for a smaller one while my children were still young. After she passed away, I kept searching for the right breed — until I finally found it …
When I first saw photos of Kooikerhondjes in 2019, it was love at first sight. Their long ears with black tips reminded me of my Dachshund, yet the breed had a healthy, well-balanced body shape — agile and built for movement.
I soon discovered that the breed was very rare in Slovenia, so I began searching in neighbouring countries. In the Czech Republic, I found several dedicated breeders — among them Lenka Schneiderová, to whom I’ll always be grateful for trusting me with a puppy from her B-litter of Serenity Hill kennel. In August 2021, we brought home our new puppy, Butterfly Serenity Hill. Her call name is Bistra, in Slovenian meaning pure or clever. It’s a bold name, but Bistra truly lives up to it: she is a loyal family member, eager to learn, and full of joy.
At the end of November 2025, we are expecting our first litter under the kennel Ex Metullo. The name of the kennel is after the village of Metulje where we live. Its name is derived from Metullum, the ancient Illyrian settlement that once stood here.
On these pages, we proudly present the parents of our upcoming litter: Butterfly Serenity Hill and Amadeus of Kooikermagic from Austria. Both parents have excellent health results and delightful, friendly temperaments. Amadeus is also multi champion in Austria, Hungary and Slovakia.
This will be the first litter of Kooikerhondjes in Slovenia after nine years!
